Arkansas batted around in the fourth inning en route to all five runs on four hits and an LSU error. It struck out Tigers ace Paul Skenes, an expected first-round choice in the future, after 3 2/3 innings in which only two of the runs were earned.
Peyton Holt and Caleb Cali each went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run for the Diamond Hogs. Jace Bohrofen’s lone hit, a single, accounted for the last two runs of the frame.
LSU initially held a 2-0 lead after scoring two runs off Arkansas starter Hagen Smith, which also lasted only 3 2/3 innings. However, nine of his 11 recorded outs came via strikeouts, proving his stuff wasn’t a problem.
Hunter Hollan was dynamite with relief. A usual starter, he had the gas to finish the rest of the game, giving up individual runs in the eighth and ninth but striking out eight more Tigers batters.
Arkansas and Florida, both of which have been in the Top 10 in the country all year, did not play during the regular season this year. The first throw on Saturday is scheduled for 12 noon.
